"The installed virus scanner is currently unavailable" message in SharePoint Services 2.0

If you set up too small timeout for virus scanning in SharePoint Central Administration (Security Configuration > Configure antivirus settings), there may occur situation when SharePoint shows "The installed virus scanner is currently unavailable. If the problem persists, contact your administrator" message every time you try to download/upload some document.

This issue does not occur inside AVG as AVG only relies on SharePoint programming interface. The solution is to increase timeout for documents scanning (we recommend the default value - 300s) and restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service.

Sharepoint license reported as trial after installation of AVG plugin

Microsoft Sharepoint might start reporting its license as being a trial version after installation of AVG Sharepoint plugin. Please note that this is not caused by a problem in AVG.

This issue will cause Sharepoint user interface to display messages similar to "The trial period for this product has expired" or "Your license has expired".

To fix this situation using automatic tool follow these step:

    • set_automatic.bat - automatically performs changes and restarts computer
    • set_confirm.bat - needs user confirmation before making changes and restarting computer
  • This must be done on all servers where Sharepoint is running.

To fix this issue manually:

  • Add the following two paths into the PATH system environment variable on all servers where Sharepoint is running:
    • %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Bin
    • %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Bin
  • Restart the server(s) so that the changes are applied.
