Using AVG Admin Server as a local web server for central update in network

To enable the update mirroring (centralized update) support, please run the AVG Admin Server Deployment Wizard from menu Start - Programs - AVG 8.5 Remote administration.
On the second page of the wizard selectboth DataCenter role and UpdateProxy role, then proceed further with the wizard:

  • you can backup your current database, although its contents will not be affected in any way
  • select Keep existing DataCenter database
  • specify which folder you wish to use for storing the downloaded update files on the server
  • adjust or confirm the order of the update servers - this configuration will be transferred to the clients once the wizard is completed
    • the order of the servers specifies their priority - if one is not available, the next one is used
    • the central update files will be available at http://[server_name_or_IP]:4158/avgupdate
  • click Deploy to store all the settings and restart the AVG Admin Server automatically

From now on, the clients will be able to update from this AVG Admin Server. In case of any problems, you can test the availability of the AVG Admin Server by opening the following website from one of the clients:
http://[server_name_or_IP]:4158/

Note:

In case you wish to use only the UpdateProxy function of the AVG Admin Server, please:

  • skip the DataCenter role settings
  • set the clients manually (or using another DataCenter / AVG Admin Server) to update from the server http://[server_name_or_IP]:4158/avgupdate

AVG centralized update issue - Invalid update control CTF file

If you receive the "Invalid update control CTF file" message during AVG update (on the station) or "Failed downloading file '/avginfowin.ctf' (avginfoavi.ctf) (error code 0xE0018D0A) (in the AVG Admin Console), most probably the update control files are corrupted. In this case it is necessary to delete these files manually. During a next attempt to update AVG, new control files should be downloaded and update process should be completed without any difficulties. Please kindly follow these steps to delete mentioned control files:

  • Navigate to the folder where the updates are stored (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\Admin Server Data\update by default)
  • Find the avginfowin.ctf and avginfoavi.ctf files
  • Delete these two files
  • Please restart the AVG Admin Server

Your Internet settings are not correct.

Even if your Internet connection is working correctly, incorrect DNS servers may be filled in, affecting AVG update. This can be caused e.g. by some virus that was previously on your computer.

  • Open menu Start -> (Settings) -> Control Panel.
  • Double-click on Network connections.
  • Right-click on the connection you are using and choose Properties.
  • Double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item on the General tab.
  • Please check (and modify if necessary) the settings of IP address and DNS servers according to your Internet Provider settings or choose the Obtain DNS server address automatically option.
  • Confirm the settings by clicking on the OK button.
  • Close the window.

If the issue persists even after performing the steps above, please contact us using the Get Help Online option in AVG Help menu.

Now it should be possible to perform the update. In case you encounter any problems do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support.
