Installing AVG 2011 Business Security products

  • If you are installing AVG for the first time (no AVG product is installed on your stations/servers), please select one from the following installation types:

    • Manual installation of AVG on every single station/server:

      For the manual installation use the AVG for Workstation installation package of your purchased AVG Business Edition and follow the installation wizard instructions.

      The latest installation package of your purchased AVG product can always be downloaded from the AVG Technologies website. Please use an appropriate link below:

    • AVG Remote Installation with AVG Network Installer Wizard:

      For the Remote Installation of AVG Business Edition it is necessary to install AVG Remote Administration and its components. Use the AVG Admin installation package. In order to configure AVG Remote Administration, it is necessary to go through the AVG Admin Deployment Wizard which is launched after the installation. It can also be launched any time later from the program folder. AVG can be remotely installed on stations/servers in several ways, but for most users, we recommend using the AVG Network Installer Wizard, one of AVG Remote Administration components.

      It is strongly recommended that you go through the whole documentation for one of AVG Business Editions first to get a general overview of all possibilities so that you can set the configuration that best suits your needs.

  • If AVG 9.0 Business Edition is currently installed, please upgrade to AVG 2011 according to our FAQ 3259.
  • If AVG 8.5 Business Edition is currently installed, please proceed according to FAQ 4187 to upgrade to AVG 2011.

AVG 2011 is already installed

  • If you are using AVG 2011 Remote Administration and need to activate all AVG clients using a new License Number, please refer to FAQ 3247.
    For further information on AVG Remote Administration, please refer to a technical FAQ section.
  • If you have AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011, Trial version of AVG 2011 or you have purchased an upgrade, renewal or an increase for your AVG product, please proceed as follows:
  1. Open the AVG Program.
  2. Double-click the License component.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. Use the copy&paste method to enter your new license number into the appropriate field, and then confirm.
  5. In case of upgrading from lower AVG edition, a window informing that your new AVG software license gives you access to additional features appears. Click Yes to add these features to your installation.
  6. In AVG Software Installer, choose components to be installed.
  7. Finish the installation of AVG.

AVG File Server Edition 2011

Your product: AVG File Server Edition 2011

A. If you are installing AVG for the first time (no AVG product installed on your server yet), please do the following:

  • Click on the download link below to get to the latest installation file of your purchased AVG:

  • Download the AVG for File Servers installation file and save it on your disk.
  • Run the downloaded file and follow the installation wizard instructions.

You will be prompted to enter your AVG Sales/License Number during the installation process. We suggest that you copy & paste the Sales/License Number from the order notification email when prompted to enter your unique number.

It is strongly recommended that you go through the whole documentation for AVG File Server Edition first to get a general overview of all possibilities so that you can set the configuration that best suits your needs.

B. If an AVG product is already installed on your server, please choose one of the options below:

  • If you are trying out the same AVG 2011 Trial edition as the AVG 2011 edition you purchased, please activate your installed AVG 2011 as described in FAQ 3266.
  • If you have purchased a renewal or an increase of your AVG 2011 product, please activate your AVG 2011 as described in FAQ 3266.
  • If you have purchased an upgrade or renewal and upgrade of your AVG 2011 product, please install additional components as described in FAQ 3587.

For the installation/upgrade on your server, please use the AVG for File Servers installation package of your purchased AVG File Server Edition.

How to recognize the version of your AVG:
Open the AVG program or control center from the Start Menu -> Programs -> AVG. The version is displayed either in the lower left corner of the window.

A. If you are installing AVG for the first time (no AVG product installed on your server(s) yet), please refer to technical FAQ 3267 for the installation instructions of your AVG Email Server Edition.

The latest installation package of your purchased AVG product can always be downloaded from the AVG Technologies website. Please use the link below:

AVG 2011 Email Server Edition

You will be prompted to enter your AVG Sales/License Number during the installation process. We suggest that you copy & paste the Sales/License Number from the order notification email when prompted to enter your unique number.

It is strongly recommended that you go through the whole documentation for AVG Email Server Edition first to get a general overview of all possibilities so that you can set the configuration that best suits your needs.

B. If an AVG product is already installed on your server, please choose one of the options below:

  • If you are using the same AVG 2011 Trial edition as the AVG 2011 edition you purchased, just enter the new license number into the installed AVG program as described in FAQ 3583.
  • If you have purchased a renewal or an increase of your AVG 2011 product, please activate it as described in FAQ 3583.
  • If you have purchased an upgrade or renewal and upgrade of your AVG 2011 product, please install additional components as described in FAQ 3587.

For the installation of your purchased AVG Email Server Edition on your server(s), please use the "AVG for E-mail Servers" installation package.

How to install AVG Server Edition for Linux/FreeBSD

Once you have purchased AVG Server Edition for Linux/FreeBSD, you need to install it to your computer. The installation consist of several steps. These steps can be found below:

1. Downloading the AVG installation file
It is recommended to always use the latest AVG installation file when installing AVG. Using an old installation file may lead to downloading large update files immediately after installation. The latest installation package also contains fixes to the most recently discovered issues, minimizing the chance of encountering an AVG malfunction in the future.

  • AVG installation files can be downloaded from our website:
    AVG Server Edition for Linux/FreeBSD
  • Choose the appropriate installation package (.rpm, .tar.gz, .deb, .sh) for your system and click its link to start the download. (In case you are not sure, please use the tar.gz or sh package - these packages can be used on all distributions).
  • When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click the "Save" button and choose a location where the installation file should be stored.

2. Installing the AVG program
Once the installation file is downloaded you can start the installation. Move to the folder with AVG installation file and execute the installation by this command (xxxx numbers stand for exact AVG version):

  • Linux
    • DEB
      # dpkg -i avg85lms-rXXX-aXXXX.i386.deb
    • RPM
      # rpm -i avg85lms-rXXX-aXXXX.i386.rpm
    • tar.gz

3. Registering the AVG program
After the installation is finished, the AVG program needs to be registered. You can do it this way:

  • # avgctl --register <your license number>
 

AVG 9.0 Business Editions

Your product: AVG Anti-Virus Business Edition or AVG Internet Security Business Edition (9.0 version)

A. If you are installing AVG for the first time (no AVG product is installed on your stations/servers), please select one from the following installation types:

For the manual installation use the AVG for Windows installation package of your purchased AVG Network Edition and follow the installation wizard instructions.

For the Remote Installation of AVG Business Edition it is necessary to install AVG Remote Administration and its components. Use the AVG Admin installation package. In order to configure AVG Remote Administration, it is necessary to go through the AVG Admin Deployment Wizard which is launched after the installation. It can also be launched any time later from the program folder. 2. If you are not using AVG Admin/Remote Administration for the installation of AVG but install AVG manually on each station/server, please note the following:

  • If you are trying out the same AVG 9.0 Trial edition as the AVG 9.0 edition you purchased, please activate your installed AVG 9.0 as described in FAQ 2572.
  • If you are trying out a different AVG 9.0 Trial edition than the purchased one, please follow the same instructions as in FAQ 2001.
  • If you have purchased a renewal or an increase of your AVG 9.0 product, please activate your AVG 9.0 as described in FAQ 2572.
  • If you have purchased an upgrade or renewal and upgrade of your AVG 9.0 product, please install additional components as described in FAQ 2597.
  • If you are using AVG Free 9.0, please refer to FAQ 2239.

2. If you are not using AVG Admin/Remote Administration for the installation of AVG but install AVG manually on each station/server, please note the following:

  • If you are trying out the same AVG 8.x Trial edition as the AVG 8.5 edition you purchased, please activate your installed AVG 8.x as described in FAQ 2572.
