If the AVG Trial Edition is installed on your computer you don´t have to re-install it if you bought the AVG Commercial version. You can simply use the Commercial Edition license number to activate the product as follows:

Open the AVG program.
Double-click on the License component.
Click on the Activate button and enter your new license number.

In case that you have purchased a higher/lower AVG edition than your AVG Trial version (e.g. Trial version was AVG Anti-Virus and commercial version is AVG Internet Security), please additionaly take the following steps:

Download the latest installation package from the Download section.
Click the AVG for Windows link:
- If unsure which file is suitable for your system, get the AVG Download Manager file
- If you wish to use the file for installation on a computer without Internet connection, use the 32bit or 64bit installer file (if unsure, choose 32bit)
When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click Save button and choose location where installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG...) and launch the installation by double-clicking on it.
Follow the on-screen instructions and choose the Add/Remove components option.
Finish the installation wizard by clicking on the Next button. All new components will be automatically added.
Restart your computer.

Please note that it is not necessary to uninstall your current AVG product.

To upgrade your AVG product, simply:

Download the latest AVG 9.0 installation file here (choose your edition and click on the link "Paid version").
Run the downloaded file and choose the Add/remove components option.
Then replace your current AVG License Number with your newly purchased AVGLicense Number.

We suggest copying your new AVG License Number from the e-mail received after your upgrade was processed, and pasting it into the appropriate field during the installation.

Note: The new product will expire at the same date as your original license.

To reinstall, uninstall or repair installation of the AVG application please proceed as follows:

Please download the latest installation file of AVG from the Download section.
When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click Save button and choose location where installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG...) and launch the installation by double-clicking on it.
The following screen will be displayed during an installation process:

Add/Remove Components - choose this option if you want to add or remove some AVG component.
Repair installation - this option repairs or reinstalls missing or damaged components of AVG.
Uninstall - this option removes the AVG program from your PC.

In case you wish to extend the license period of the AVG program with your new AVG License Number, please refer to FAQ 2032 for more information.

In case you need to install/uninstall or repair installation of your AVG program and the Normal Mode of your Windows operating system is not available, you can do that in the Safe Mode. However, since Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode of the Windows operating system, there are some limitations for such AVG installation.

Installation of the AVG program in Safe Mode
Since no services can be started in Safe Mode, it is necessary to install the AVG program without the Firewall, Online Shield and Personal E-mail Scanner components.

In order to install AVG in Safe Mode please proceed as follows:

1. Restart your computer into Safe Mode. Please follow instructions in FAQ 2324.

2. Please download the latest installation file

Select your edition of AVG:
When prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click Save and choose the location where the installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop.

3. Start the AVG installation:

Locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG...) and launch the installation by double-clicking it.
Follow the installation wizard and choose the Custom Installation option.
Enter your license number when asked (we recommend using the copy&paste method when entering the license number).
In the Components selection window please untick Firewall, Online Shield and Personal E-mail Scanner components.
Finish the installation of the AVG program.

Even though the AVG program is installed without some of the components, it is possible to execute the AVG scan as described in FAQ 2105.

Repair installation in Safe Mode
After restarting your computer into Safe Mode (see FAQ 2324 for details), the repair installation does not vary from the repair installation in Normal Mode. For more information please refer to FAQ 1997.

Uninstallation in Safe Mode
After restarting your computer into Safe Mode (see FAQ 2324 for details), the uninstallation does not vary from the uninstallation in Normal Mode. For more information please refer to FAQ 1996.

Please note that some warnings may appear during the installation, reinstallation or uninstallation of the AVG program in Safe Mode. These warnings inform you that AVG services cannot be started because of running in Safe Mode. This is normal behavior.
All AVG services will be started after the restart into Normal Mode automatically.
